Prakash Paudel Introduces AI Tool in Nepal to Enhance Healthcare Delivery
Driven to make a lasting impact on healthcare in Nepal, Prakash Paudel, MD, MPH, a Clinical Informatics fellow at UMass Chan, has introduced an AI-powered tool that listens to conversations between doctors and patients and converts them into structured medical notes. The tool, called MyClinico, was created with the support of KIOCH Partners of America (K-PALS), a nonprofit organization founded by Dr. Paudel and his colleagues, to establish the Kathmandu Institute of Child Health (KIOCH).
The tool, which was officially launched at Damak Children’s Hospital, listens to conversations between doctors and patients and automatically generates medical notes by analyzing spoken interactions and producing structured documentation. According to Dr. Paudel, the use of the new tool will ultimately help improve the quality of patient documentation, diagnosis, and treatment.
“The AI tool acts as a physician’s assistant; it eliminates the need for doctors to manually write lengthy medical histories,” said Dr. Paudel.
